Maintenance Supervisor - 3rd Shift

Basic Purpose
This position has direct responsibility for the repair and servicing of all facility equipment to support manufacturing operations facilities maintenance and the safety of plant personnel. Directs the hourly workforce in the installation, maintenance, servicing, and mechanical/electrical repair of all equipment necessary for the continuity of manufacturing operations.

 

Principal Accountabilities
1.Coordinate programs such as emergency, preventive and predictive maintenance to insure optimum equipment capability and uptime.
2.Key technical skills: troubleshoot, maintain and repair large manufacturing equipment that includes pneumatics, hydraulics, air compressors, chillers, heat exchangers, drives, robotics, gear boxes, conveyer systems, pumps, piping and valves, filters/strainers, steam systems.
3.Applied knowledge of the following is essential: predictive/preventative maintenance, welding and cutting equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, fluid and lubrication systems, etc.
4.Overseeing maintenance operations and effectively utilize manpower, machinery and materials to minimize the cost of changeovers and repairs to machinery, tools and related equipment.
5.Recommend and implement systems and processes to improve productivity, product quality and equipment reliability.
6.Identify training needs and capability “gaps”; implement training and development plans for assigned maintenance personnel to ensure employee competency.
7.Resolve issues that impact employee and/or operational effectiveness and ensures achievement of team and organizational goals.
8.Administer company policies and procedures. Respond to collective bargaining issues in a timely manner as stated in the contract. Ensures that provisions are consistently applied.
9.Promote safety awareness, implement safety guidelines and programs, evaluate reasons for accidents and injuries and recommend actions to correct safety problems.
10. Continuously improve operational processes by leveraging personal and team knowledge and expertise; analyze operating performance and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
11. Prepare reports and document departmental and individual performance. Communicate results to individuals, teams and management and implement processes to improve manufacturing, quality, safety and financial performance.
12. Maintain effective systems for employee communications, continuous improvement and other systems that support business objectives.

 

Required Skills, Education, and Experience
• Two-year technical degree desired; bachelor’s degree a definite plus.
• Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in manufacturing maintenance; previous exposure leading a unionized workforce desired.
• Thorough understanding of OSHA, JIC, ANSI, NEMA, and National Electrical Code.
• Well-developed electrical and mechanical skills and related experience in manufacturing processes to determine equipment, material and manpower required to facilitate equipment repair.
• Must be proficient in the use of interpersonal communications techniques to provide clear direction to individuals and work groups.
• Excellent time management skills; ability to organize, coordinate and track multiple projects.
• Ability to collect, organize and interpret data and develop recommendations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft PC applications and maintenance work order systems.
