Filiform corrosion has increasingly become a concern due to harsher operating conditions and the aggressive chemical makeup of snow and ice products.
What is Filiform Corrosion?
Filiform corrosion occurs commonly within metallic alloys that use an organic type of coating when exposed to warm and humid air.
This corrosion often forms as a result of the coating material being damaged – a scratch, or pit from an impact.
ProShield XGT™ not only minimizes damage from impacts and scratches, it also prevents unsightly corrosion from forming if they are damaged.
ProShield XGT™ is a patent-pending metal conversion process that bonds a protective coating with the aluminum microstructure, which means filiform corrosion can’t get a foothold to grow.
What Filiform Corrosion?
In accelerated corrosion tests, we subjected ProShield XGT™ to repeated exposures to a cocktail of popular deicing agents. Wheels with simulated damage, which extended all the way to the base metal, were put through 80 cycles of temperature, humidity, and drying exposures.
The results shown here – after the equivalent of roughly eight years of abuse – shows no significant filiform corrosion.
