Metallurgy Technician
Basic Purpose
The purpose of this position is to perform and assist in the inspection of new and existing products to evaluate metallurgical data, determine root cause of failure, document results and work with other metallurgists / testing personnel to issue reports. Work in collaboration with Materials Lab manager to maintain equipment and develop preventive maintenance schedules for instrumentation at the Materials Laboratory in Henderson. The incumbent is expected to work with other members of the Engineering department and testing laboratories in Henderson to provide support to manufacturing operations across Accuride in product development and manufacturing process improvement initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide timely and accurate material and metallurgical related responses to customers.
- Maintains and operates metallurgical lab equipment.
- Keeps documented records of calibrations.
- Provide technical support that address material concerns in wheel product developments.
- Work in collaboration with Materials Lab manager and members of Engineering Department in Henderson to generate metallurgical reports, on schedule, to meet customer demands.
- Conduct analysis and evaluation of the quality and properties of metals.
- Conduct research/analyses methodologies and document the results.
- Actively participate in cost reduction programs by working in collaboration with Materials and Engineering personnel on new cost reduction ideas.
- Follow applicable Quality Management System procedures and work instructions.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in metallurgy preferred
- A two-year technical degree is acceptable
- Experience with metallurgical lab equipment
- Experience with CMM technology desired.
- Good analytical skills
- Familiarity with fatigue testing, failure analysis, welding/joining and corrosion.
- Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and metal forming operations.
- Proven proficiency with Microsoft applications
